Symbolism & Imagery:
Before getting into the different meanings of The World, it is useful to take a look at what is depicted on the card. Doing this allows you to develop your connection with the card and deepen your understanding.
The World Tarot card shows a woman floating in midair, mostly naked except for a purple scarf around her waist. She holds a baton in each hand and is framed with a laurel wreath. The woman appears to be moving or dancing. There is a steadiness to her, an aura of contentment. But, she is still moving on. Her reflection is only momentary. The circular wreath around her signifies completion and life cycles. She is at one with this, her stance one of comfort. She knows that as she completes one part of her life, a new beginning is on the horizon. She will soon become The Fool again.
There are four creatures that surround the wreath; a bull, a lion, an eagle, and an angel. These figures also appear on the Wheel of Fortune card and reflect the four elements. The woman has a connection with these elements and finds harmony within her wreath. She has an understanding of the world around her and is momentarily pausing to address her achievements.
