Symbolism & Imagery:
In traditional depictions of the Chariot card, there is a warrior sitting on a chariot. The warrior is shown as a traveler with a city behind him. The chariot is taking him where he needs to go, with his determination supporting his journey. He is concentrating on where he is going, his eyes facing forward. He is standing tall, and this represents his courage to act and move forward in life.
There are two sphinxes that are pulling the chariot. One is black, and one is white, and these represent two different forces that the warrior has to control. They are pulling in two different directions. This may be two conflicting sides within the warrior that he has to overcome in order to succeed on his journey.
The warrior is concerned mainly with the physical world and the journey he is on; however, the symbolism on his clothes suggests that he is still in tune with spirituality and higher levels of consciousness. He knows that these are important for him to get to his destination.
